Brian Ohleyer Memorial Scholarship


BRIAN OHLEYERA two-letter athlete at Redwood High School, football captain and recipient of all-league honors, Brian also maintained a 4.0 grade point average and was valedictorian in 1987. He was the recipient of a National Football Hall of Fame Foundation Scholarship Grant and the Scholar Athlete Award for Marin County, California. Brian played rugby all 4 years at Brown University, and upon returning to San Francisco, worked frequently as a rugby official for local leagues.
HISTORY The Olympic Club Foundation gives the Brian Ohleyer Scholarship Awards annually to both a male and female high school senior whose athletic and academic interests are matched by personal qualities of leadership, involvement and community service. The Ohleyer Scholarship was created in 1997 to honor an outstanding young Olympic Club member who lost his life tragically in an automobile accident.
NOMINATE A STUDENT
Principals, Athletic Directors & Counselors may nominate two seniors from their high school to be considered for the 2017-2018 Brian Ohleyer Scholarship Award. In selecting recipients, the Olympic Club Foundation looks for students who demonstrate outstanding leadership in academics, athletics, and community service and whose accomplishments exemplify the highest ideals of sportsmanship, honor and caring. Please nominate one male and/or one female student who meet these requirements.
CRITERIA In selecting recipients for the Ohleyer Scholarship Awards, the Olympic Club Foundation looks for students who demonstrate outstanding leadership in academics, athletics and community service and whose accomplishments exemplify the highest ideals of sportsmanship, honor and caring.
THE AWARD Ohleyer Award winners receive $4,000 in scholarship funds when they graduate from high school and enroll in a 4-year college. Winners also receive membership in The Olympic Club (following standard admissions process) with initiation fees and dues waived until they reach the age of 25. Additionally, their high school alma maters receive $1,000 grants in the students' names.

*Application due by Tuesday, October 31, 2017 
**NO students may nominate themselves. Applications must be turned in by a SPONSOR (athletic director, principal, counselor, teacher, coach, etc.)
